We have a closet in our dining room that is really not necessary. Since I collect vintage china I thought it would be perfect as a built in china closet. A carpenter is going to build shelves and insert glass in the door. Our electrician wired the closet for a vintage chandelier. The chandelier came out of the house that I grew up in and now I found a perfect spot for my little treasure.

This project has not been a top priority since we have been keeping our carpenter busy at the store. We hope to start in a few weeks since we are eager to complete this project before the holiday season.

The carpenter removed the door and had the glass put in. We met to discuss the design of the shelves, select interior color and basic layout. We decided to go with an off white and beadboard interior. The door became so heavy with the glass the carpenter had to add an additional hinge. We were lucky enough that he had three old hinges that are perfect with the overall look of the house. It is great to see the progress. We also realized that even if these projects are taking longer than we expected we are enjoying every moment. We love our house and enjoy watching and working on every improvement.

The china closet is almost complete. Jack our carpenter worked for a day and a half installing beadboard, shelving and the closet door. Our next step is to hang our vintage chandelier and stock the shelves with china.

My chandelier was hung in time for the holidays. I was finally able to stock my shelves with my china. This project took a little longer than expected mainly due to the holiday season and busy schedules. It was worth the wait. It was great to see a project that we thought about when we purchased our house come to life.

Final step was to install a Dash and Albert carpet on the china closet floor. We decided on a neutral and used one of our favorites Meadow Stripe and filled an antique basket with dried hydrangea from our garden.
