Ava Rose's Nursery Complete
Ava Rose's nursery was complete a few months ago but the finishing details just went in. The construction project was a big one as you can see the before photos below. George completely gutted the room to insulate it and replace the walls and put in a wood ceiling. The room is filled with details so I will explain each item. The mural was painted by Jennifer Lanne one of our favorite artists. It was painted on canvas and shipped to us. I asked Jennifer to paint three birds and to use the colors of her bedding and furniture. Her imagination did the rest.
The Ava Rose crib is from Jane Keltner Collection and available at our store or online. It is unbelieveable in person. Solid wood with handpainted roses. The glider is Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic in Charlotte. The glider is no longer available but we have The Taylor Scott Collection now that also makes beautiful gliders.
Ava Rose's crib bedding is Bella Notte. We selected Amethyst and Petal. The bumper is Embroidered Velvet. The crib sheet is linen. The blankets are satin/velvet, crib skirts are Embroidered Velvet over Velvet.
The armoire is also from the Jane Keltner Collection and can be made any color you like with any handpainted design.
Ava Rose's chandelier is made in Italy with a rose pink base and murano glass flowers. The chandelier is also available at Lavender Fields.
The Guardian Angel print was from my childhood.
I was saving this vintage switchplate waiting for the perfect location an it is a perfect match.
George and a good friend built this shelf to store Ava Rose's collectibles.
I found this beautiful dream catcher to hang in one window.
The print below is from an old storybook and was a gift from a friend.
September 20, 2008 Ava Rose's room is the most exciting project we have ever worked on. We have been working on it for 5 weeks but I just had the chance to post some photos. Her room was our exercise room which we always knew would be the perfect nursery. The room was always very cold in the winter but has a fantastic view over our garden. George decided to remove all of the walls and ceiling and insulate it properly. We also decided to leave the ceiling open like we did in our guest room.
In this photo you can see an old vent that George had to close up. You can also see that there was no insulation at all. We had the electrical fully upgraded. The white part of the wall you see here will be a mural from Jennifer Lanne.
We did find the original floors under the carpet and then under layers of linoleum tile. We doubt we will be able to use the original floors since there will be too much work involved and we do not have much time.
George already:
Insulated the room.
Installed sheetrock.
Had the electrical upgraded.
Our plans for Ava Rose's room:
Install new wood on the ceiling.
Install reclaimed wood floor.
Select environmentally safe paint.
While all the work is going on I am having fun selecting furniture and bedding. Stay tuned for the complete makeover coming soon.
November 2008
We decided to try to restore the original floor. The floor was covered with linoleum and black paper. George had to scrape the black paper off which set us back a week.
The good news is the sheetrock is up and the walls are primed.
George insulated the ceiling and installed new wood.
